ASG/ ICC Black and African-American Scholarship

ASG/ ICC Black and African-American Scholarship

The Associated Student Government (ASG) and the Inter-Club Council (ICC) created this scholarship as an equitable opportunity for MiraCosta College students, particularly those who identify as Black or African American, as a means to provide opportunities for individuals who represent these identities. This is a merit based scholarship that considers lived experiences, advocacy within the Black/African American community, extracurriculars (club involvement and leadership), disproportionate impact, experience as a historically underserved student, and course load etc. Applicants must be currently enrolled students at MiraCosta College (Oceanside Campus, San Elijo Campus, Community Learning Center).

ASG/ ICC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Scholarship

The Associated Student Government (ASG) and the Inter-Club Council (ICC) created this merit-based scholarship to serve our disproportionately impacted student population as informed by the college’s student equity plan data. This is a merit based scholarship that considers lived experiences, extracurriculars (club involvement and leadership), disproportionate impact, experience as a historically underserved student, and course load etc. Applicants must be currently enrolled students at MiraCosta College (Oceanside Campus, San Elijo Campus, Community Learning Center). A personal statement is required.
 





Asian Pacific Islander Scholarship

This scholarship is for students at MiraCosta College with a 2.0 GPA or higher who demonstrate financial need. Qualified candidates must be students planning to continue at MiraCosta College and enroll in six or more units, or transferring in the fall to a four-year institution.
Students must have completed a minimum of 25 hours of volunteer service in the Pacific Islander community,  Service activities must be performed while the student is enrolled at MiraCosta College, and service hours must be documented through the Service Learning and Volunteer Center.  Students must provide a current Service Learning/Volunteer timecard and an unofficial MiraCosta College transcript. Priority given to those with financial need.





Azizi Refugee Scholarship



The Azizi Refugee Scholarship will be awarded to a student who has escaped conflict in their home country (refugee and/or asylum seeker. Priority is given to students involved in 'AMEMSA+ (Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian) organizations on campus.

  • Student(s) must be active in black and African-American advocacy such as leadership in a related student organization or active service for a community organization or group such as but not limited to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Urban League, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), or the National Action Network (NAN).

Current students (at any MiraCosta campus CLC, Oceanside or San Elijo) must be enrolled in at least 6 units for fall 2023. 

Students must also collaborate with the DDLM Planning Committee, helping to design and facilitate MiraCosta College DDLM programs and events at the Oceanside, Community Learning Center and San Elijo campuses.  This includes event planning, preparation, and execution and may include leading specific programs for the event(s).

Based on yearly funding available, this may be renewed up to three years, $3,000 maximum, to a student who maintains a 2.0 GPA or higher, enrolls in six units or more each semester, and remains in good standing with the college.

Lomeli-Miller Endowed Scholarship

The Lomeli-Miller Scholarship supports students making progress toward their academic goals. Students must demonstrate dedication and diligence in the completion of  MiraCosta College courses (either credit, non-credit, or ESL). Four students will receive $1,000 (split between fall/spring) and an additional $500 will be awarded at the end of the academic year to one student whose reports are judged most thorough and meaningful by the committee.

 

Students selected for the award must make an education plan and meet with a counselor to work towards their educational goals. A thank you letter is required prior to receiving funds.

· Submit a MiraCosta College Credit Application for Admission by September 15, 2024.

· Be or have been registered for classes at the Community Learning Center (CLC) in spring 2024, summer 2024, or fall 2024.

· Must have an educational goal of an AA or higher

· Must demonstrate dedication and diligence in the completion of two or more MiraCosta College courses (non-credit/ESL or credit)

· Demonstrate how the scholarship funds will enhance the student's ability to achieve the goals described in the education plan

To qualify for the Project LIKE Community Engagement Scholarship, an applicant must:

Rare Disease Scholarship



Award to a student or someone with a family member who is affected.

Neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2) is a rare genetic disorder that can cause tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body and it affects all populations regardless of ethnicity or gender. Signs and symptoms such as ringing in the ears, hearing loss, balance problems, and compromised vision (among other symptoms) usually develop during the late teen or early adulthood years. There is no cure for NF2, and treatments included surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and or clinical trials. The NF2 scholarship is intended for students diagnosed with and impacted by any rare genetic disorder. The scholarship is also open to students who have a close family member diagnosed with any rare genetic disorder and who are impacted as a result of their family member’s condition.
